Best Phone Ever.

i wish my wife would let me have one of these...

John's Phones sell no-frills mobile phones that send and receive calls and pretty much nothing else (though there's a place to keep your pen). Warren Ellis likens it to a phone from minimalist Japanese housewares/clothing company Muji.
Finally a separate unit with no frills and conditions. A simlock free phone with large keys, an address book, a pen and over three weeks time standby... John's Phone is simple and easy for young, old, holiday, grandfathers, grandmothers, athletes, national and international business traffic.

Best Box Ever.

those frikkin ebay geniuses!!
i am just floored (figuratively) at the thought of this here box!
ebay, you have outdone yourself.
just shut my mouth wide open!
i'll be a monkey's uncle if i don't opt to score one of these!

aside from my foolishness, this is some good shit right here.  if you have an ebay store, order some of these bad boys and tell me all about them.  why NOT save the planet!!

Ebay will release 100,000 reusable shipping containers this October in a pilot program that aims to reduce packaging waste. From Inhabitat:
The box itself is made out of 100% FSC-certified material, features water-based inks and requires minimal tape to close. eBay has said that the box could be so successful that “a single box reused five times could save nearly 4,000 trees, 2.4 million gallons of water, and conserve enough energy to juice up 49 homes for a year."
The online auctioneer will send containers to any user who requests them. Users will be able to track containers as they move from location to location, see where a box has traveled for previous transactions, and report on the status of a box when it arrives. After a few months, Ebay will assess the success of the program and determine whether to release it on a larger scale.

Best Crosswalk Ever. (+rant)

now here's a bright idea.  talk about form to function!  three cheers for thinking outside of the box, literally!!

(sidenote: i hate when people say literally and it really isn't literal.  ex: "it took me, like, literally 10 hours to get to work today!"  did it take you 10 hours??  then why are you here at 8:24am?  you left your house at 10:24pm last night???  oh, alright...  you must mean FIGURATIVELY then.  thanks.)

Here's a brilliantly simple idea from the Korean designer Jae Min Lim, via Fast Company's Co.Design: redesigning crosswalks to reflect how pedestrians actually walk.

Best Teabagger Ever.

her grandkids shoulda stopped her before she went out with that sign...  i wonder if she has a tip jar anywhere....?  a sign-up sheet maybe???

Best Couch EVER.

found this on CL.  no lie

BABY-MAKING COUCH--FREE

Date: 2010-08-25, 10:36PM

In the pursuit of creating life, people will go to extraordinary lengths and costs to have a child. And yet, with this one olive couch, you could do it for FREE.

My wife and I conceived our second child on this couch, who is due to arrive next month. I realize many others selling couches on Craigslist will never mention the sex they had on their couches. Let me burst that bubble now: ALL OF THEM DID.

The difference with this couch is that it has been proven to produce procreative sex.

But maybe you're a college student who has no interest in getting pregnant. You just want a free couch. I get that. Well, let me tell you that plenty of completely unproductive, non-procreative sex also happened on this couch. So ignore the above advertisement targeted towards biologically-ticking couples. Statistically speaking, this couch is like a condom, but much more comfortable.

That all being said, we clean the couch pretty diligently. It's only three years old. And it's damn comfortable for watching the game, playing XBox, getting banished for a night, or, well, you know.... So while it may not be immaculate, nor the site of the Immaculate Conception, it's a good deal (when is free NOT a good deal?)

And the ottoman and two throw pillows are nice.

If you come and help me haul it away (which may involve getting it down nine flights of stairs, with the aid of a couple strapping, procreative men), it is yours for free.

We're in Van Ness, and I would need it hauled away probably by the end of the day Thursday, or sometime Friday. Otherwise, it's trash.
