Static No. 12 (Seek Stillness in Movement) is a video piece by Australian artist Daniel Crooks who filmed a man performing tai chi and used what appears to be a form of video slit scanning to play it slowly back. I tried to get the actual video for you, but it’s technically unavailable for viewing online (ahem, however — awesome right?). Hopefully one day we’ll be able to watch a clearer version online. Thanks to the Anna Schwartz Gallery for permitting use of the still above.

- how far have you walked for men who’ve never held your feet in their laps?
- how often have you bartered with bone, only to sell yourself short?
- why do you find the unavailable so alluring?
- where did it begin? what went wrong? and who made you feel so worthless?
- if they wanted you, wouldn’t they have chosen you?
- all this time, you were begging for love silently, thinking they couldn’t hear you, but they smelt it on you, you must have known that they could taste the desperate on your skin?
- and what about the others that would do anything for you, why did you make them love you until you could not stand it?
- how are you both of these women, both flighty and needful?
- where did you learn this, to want what does not want you?
- where did you learn this, to leave those that want to stay?
Changed Mind

Best Water Fountain EVERRR!
i want to go to this park with a lil cup to fill. i would do this over and over and over and over.
The Tropism Well by UK-based Poietic Studio is a modernized take on the water fountain. Sensing the approach of an individual the well begins to lean automatically as water is pumped into the stem, pouring enough water to fill a glass. The motion of the fountain is really quite elegant and certainly puts a twist on a common functional object. Via their website:

Through the synthesis of nature and technology, these structures explore the relationships we have with objects and spaces that surround us on a daily basis. The simple gestural connection creates a stimulating and symbolic moment. The Tropism Well uses natural laws of physics to function. Once it has seen you, the gentle bowing motion is created simply by moving water up and down the stem. The catch is one would need a drinking vessel to successfully get a drink, so we might not see these on every street corner soon. However, I for one welcome our new water pouring overlords.
